Jennifer: Why don’t you just let him off the leash?
John: Because although I love him, I don’t trust him.
Jennifer: Honey, it’s been two years. He’s never had
  an accident.
John: I know, ’cause I never let him off the leash. We’re not gonna be the guys who get Dog Beach shut down, are we, Marley? Nope. Okay. So what’s next?
  Jennifer: Um, ice cream?
John: No. I mean on your list.
  Jennifer: My list?
John: Jen, the list…Your little play list that you had when we got married that had the game plan. It was basically my marching orders.
  Jennifer: My plan?
John: Your plan. I wanna know what’s next. ①Scare me.
  Jennifer: You really wanna know?
  John: ②Hit me.
  Jennifer: Well, ③it’s a toss-up between the new roof…
  John: Very practical.
  Jennifer: And a...and a baby.
John: ④I could live with a few leaks.
  Jennifer: Really?
  John: Yeah, a couple.
Jennifer: But you know, a couple leaks turn into maybe one big leak...and then that big leak becomes a very big responsibility.
  John: That’s true.
Jennifer: We may want to think about fixing a lot of things before we start…
John: Well, honey, we already fixed Marley. If we fix too many more things, then I think this conversation becomes 1)moot.
  Jennifer: John, are you serious?
John: Yeah. Yeah, I think so.
Jennifer: You realize we’re not talking about an actual roof here.
John: Yes. I got that. ⑤About halfway through I picked it up. Good 2)metaphor though.
Jennifer: And you’re not just saying this…’cause you think it’ll lead to some funny columns?
John: Honey, come on. I mean, if I get some funny columns...that’s collateral damage I think we can live with. I mean, I’m ready...if you are.
Jennifer: Well, instead of trying to have a baby...why don’t just stop trying not to have one?
John: Okay, ⑥if I’m following you correctly, and I think
  I am…
  Jennifer: Uh-huh.
John: ⑦This is the part-we head back, we take it off, we get it on.

Marley and Me
