Justin: You should’ve seen my advisor’s face. He practically told me I’m too dumb to be in this program.
Robert: Now why would he say that?
Justin: Because apparently, I’m in way over my head. Honestly, I think this guy wants me to flunk out so he can give my seat to someone who deserves it.
Robert: OK, now hold on. I wouldn’t have written the letter or made the calls if I didn’t think you deserved it. OK, you’ve been a 6)medic in two wars. You’ve dealt with everything on the battlefield, from sucking chest wounds to amputations. And I don’t think most of those science geeks can say that. If it’s the academics, then, you know, you gotta man up and work harder.
Justin: Man up? You want me to…how am I supposed to man up when all my professors resent me even being there?
Robert: Justin, you’re not going to solve whatever’s wrong here by continuing to blame me for helping you.
Justin: Oh, maybe the problem is that whatever I have to “solve” isn’t solvable.
