How to Make the Most of a Break on Aphrodite's Island

There are lots of reasons why visitors keep coming back to Cyprus and why first timers are attracted to the island, too. Here are some of the best.

Feast on a Traditional Cypriot Meze[(地中海的)开胃小吃]

This culinary[烹饪的] feast of 20 to 30 dishes just keeps on coming. Olives, dolmades[土耳其包子], hummus[鹰嘴豆泥] and other Greek delights are followed by a lot of fish or meat. It's great for those with a big appetite[胃口]!

Chat to Friendly Locals Who Adore Children

Want pitta[(希腊和中东地区的)皮塔饼] bread? The taverna[餐馆] owner will fetch some from next door—piping hot[非常新鲜的]!

The Cypriots love children and welcome them wherever they go. The majority of people speak English, and they drive on the left—yet the island retains its Greek culture and atmosphere.

古迹遍布全岛 Archaeology Abounds[充满] all over the Island

With more than 10,000 years of history, there is plenty to see like the UNESCO Paphos Archaeological Park housing amazing Roman third-century mosaic floors in the House of Dionysus注1 and the House of Theseus注2. Or try the impressive Tombs of the Kings—underground tombs dating back to the 4th century BC. (They are carved out of solid rock. High officials rather than Kings were buried here, but the magnificence of the tombs gave the locality[地点] its name.)

  Follow in Aphrodite's Footsteps

Go for a swim at Aphrodite's Rock (a myth states if you swim around the Aphrodite's Rock, you will be blessed with eternal beauty), or visit the Baths of Aphrodite where the goddess used to meet her beloved Adonis注3.

Spot Green and Loggerhead Turtles [

This is one of the last remaining turtle hatching areas in the Mediterranean and a wonderful place of beauty. Green and loggerhead turtles return to this sandy beach each year to lay their eggs. Tourists are allowed onto the beach during the day but are advised to tread[踩,踏] carefully.

4 for Ancient Wonders

The only remaining divided capital city in the world, Nicosia is a treasure trove[被发现的东西]. Surrounded by 16th-century Venetian[威尼斯人的] fortifications[防御工事], it contains ancient churches, medieval[中世纪的] buildings and museums. Wander around the narrow streets of the old town, stopping off at a taverna or shop selling lace and leather.

Enjoy Walking and Bird Watching in the Troodos Mountains

The mountains are a heaven for nature lovers, birdwatchers and walkers. Around 350 bird species stop off here on their migration south.
