Nina Dobrev & Her Off-Vampire Life(2)

  Mother

Interviewer: And how does your family react to your success? They gotta be happy for you, right?
Nina: Yeah, yeah, my…I have a great family, and my mom's actually backstage—she's here…
  Interviewer: Yeah.
  Nina: …supporting.
Interviewer: Yeah, that's nice. Is she your manager too? No.
Nina: No, no. My parents, my family, nobody has anything to do with the business. I was kinda the one who wanted to become an actress, so I drove and took the bus 45 minutes to auditions, and just…I did everything on my own: they just supported me throughout.
Interviewer: Is Bulgarian, like…like a Latino family where they necessarily wouldn't complement you but tell you in another way that's kind of a complement but it's not?
  Nina: My mom…
Interviewer: Like they'll say, “You did good that time, the other time not so much.” Like that kinda stuff.
Nina: Yeah. I mean, my mom is my hardest critic. She's really like she's my toughest critic and she will tell me if I do something that she doesn't like. She'll be, like, “I saw you, you were acting in that moment,” like, “you weren't being real.” So she'll…she's…she's honest with me, which is what I love.
Interviewer: Yeah. So you have a job where you…your mom is your toughest critic…
  Nina: Mm hmm.
Interviewer: You have a job where you drink blood and you have to kill people…
  Nina: Mm hmm.
Interviewer: And you have a language that you speak fluently and “no” means “yes.” I want to make you an honorary Latina. It's very rare that I meet people. Congratulations! You have all the qualifications.
  Nina: Thank you.
  Interviewer: You're actually over-qualified.
  Nina: Ah haa!

  Hotlanta

Interviewer: The Vampire Diaries—I found this interesting—it's filmed in “6)Hotlanta.”
  Nina: Mm hmm.
Interviewer: Is that what they call it—“Hotlanta?”
Nina: I don't know how to answer that because…if I were to go there 7)unaffected, I would say it is hot! But 8)Tyler Perry tells me not to say that. Tyler Perry wants to convince everyone to stop calling it “Hotlanta” because he doesn't want it to have that association. But it's hot. So I'm sorry Tyler Perry, it's “Hotlanta.”
  Interviewer: (Laughing)
Nina: But it's like a hundred degrees outside and humid: it's hot! Like it's just what it is, you gotta live with it.
Interviewer: Do you like filming in Atlanta?
Nina: I do, I do love filming in Atlanta 'cause the food is good.
Interviewer: Yeah,it's deep fried, though: everything…
Nona: Everything is deep fried, they put 9)grits on everything, cheese…oh, it's so good.
Interviewer: And that's how you roll, you like deep fried? 10)Latina!
  Nina: Haa!
  Interviewer: I told you!
